The Kitchen Maids HCE have their craft and bake sale at just the right time for not only Christmas gifts, but also for hunters coming for the food made by the Tilleda Timberwolves 4-H Club.
“People will come and enjoy the good hearty lunch,” said Carol Sybeldon, Kitchen Maids president.
The Nov. 23 event is the group’s 26th annual fundraiser, which has grown over the years and added a bake sale along the way.
“We started with a handful of vendors and now we fill up the Tilleda Hall (Seneca Community Hall),” Sybeldon said. “Some come back year after year.”
Mad Dog & Merrill, who said they like to come to little towns, will again be there this year with cookbooks, seasonings and gift boxes for the holidays. They won’t be doing any cooking.
“They saw our ad and gave us a call,” Sybeldon said. “They talk to people and are very entertaining. We were thrilled to have them come and get involved.”
Sybeldon said they do a lot of advertising, including putting the information in church bulletins.
“We get quite a bit of traffic, providing the weather cooperates,” she said.
All the bakery is homemade. There are angel food cakes, pies, cookies, bars, bread, rolls and candy. She also noted that the bakery is reasonably priced and put in small packages.
“They’re all good sellers,” Sybeldon said. “Everyone of us bakes. We usually sell out every year.”
The money raised is used to benefit local organizations such as SAFPARC, Safe Haven, Tilleda United Lutheran Pantry and Coats for Kids. To further help, instead of purchasing gifts for each other this year, they put the money toward more coats.
They also contribute to Toys for Tots, Tilleda Pond Rehabilitation District and the Tilleda Advancement Association.
A new project this year is making sleep sacks for newborns. They also make preemie caps and blankets along with lap blankets.
“We purchase our own materials,” Sybeldon said. “We knew that we needed to do more community outreach.”
Another new activity is playing Bingo and furnishing prizes for the residents at Oakhaven the last Wednesday of the month. The Kitchen Maids read to kids through Bookworms, help at the brat stand, take bakery to the Shawano Farmers Market, and made two dozen muffins for the Bike the Barn Quilts.
Other officers are Bonnie Harrison, vice president; Pat Arnold, secretary; and JoAnn Fehrman, treasurer. They meet the third Monday of the month at 1 p.m. at members’ homes.
