It has been around 32 years that the Shawano County Conservation Association has had a stand at the fair. Located near the grandstand, it features 10 tables where people can sit and eat.
“We have excellent burgers,” President Harlo Hillsberg said.
The five clubs in the association take turns working in the stand: Wednesday, Briarton Game Club; Thursday and Friday, Shawano Gun Club; Saturday, Cecil Fish and Game Club; Sunday, Shawano Fish and Game Club; and Monday, White Clay Lake Sportsman Club.
Carol Schneider, secretary/treasurer of the association, said she is there most of the time to help out and would like people to know that the stand is a good place to stop.
“Come down to our end,” she said “We have a place to sit with indoor seating.”
The fair stand will have walking tacos, burgers, cheeseburgers, jumbo burgers, homemade French fries, chili cheese fries, hot dogs, chili dogs, chicken strips, onion rings, beer, soda, Sun Drop slushies and — new this year — chili.
All the proceeds from the fair go back to the clubs, which use it for their programs such as raising pheasants or maintaining the shooting ranges.
The association’s big fundraiser is Buck Fever Night, which this year will be from 6-9 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Shawano County Shop. Admission is free. There are 50/50 and gun raffles. Schneider said they get a couple thousand people at the event.

“To get them to hunt,” she said, adding, “I wish I could get more people with exhibits for bowhunting.”
She said there will be over 20 exhibitors including the DNR, 4-H, Wisconsin Bowhunters and Rawhide.
“Bring the kids,” Hillsberg said. “There are lots of things for the kids to learn.”
Both Schneider and Hillsberg said more women are getting involved.
“I’d like to get some crafters there,” Schneider said.
Some of the funds raised at the event help maintain the fair stand. Last year they bought a new French fryer, and this year they hope to get a new grill and new tables.
Wayne Bahr is the association vice president. Two people from each club also help guide the association.
“We support nature and wildlife,” Schneider said.
Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of the month at the food stand in the summer. The winter meeting place is still to be determined.
