Auto theft suspect was passenger in May spree

A 13-year-old girl taken into custody Tuesday after allegedly stealing a van had been a passenger in a car theft spree in May, according to police. Police received a call at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday about a van stolen from a driveway in the 1000 block of South Smalley Street in Shawano. The vehicle was spotted and stopped on West Fifth Street, where the girl and another juvenile were taken into custody. The 13-year-old driver was transported to Brown County’s juvenile detention facility. According to police, the girl had ridden with Lindsay R. Holstrom, 16, during an auto theft and joyriding spree over the weekend of May 11 and 12. According to the criminal complaint, Holstrom and the 13-year-old stole a vehicle in the city and used it to drive to Keshena and back. They then attempted stealing another car before the vehicle struck something and the two fled in different directions. Holstrom is accused of stealing two more cars on her own that day and another after she was released on bond. She was waived into adult court and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 1. According to police reports, all of the stolen vehicles — including the van taken Tuesday — had keys that had been left in the vehicle.
