Doris Elst

Sept. 29 was the end to our amazing Doris Elst’s life. She brought music into our lives, gracious hospitality and God. She shared with us her many opinions, and had the wonderful gift of humor, which she used every day. Doris was born March 27, 1929, to Edward and Julianna Opperman in Shawano. She married the love of her life, Frank Elst, in 1946. She brought four lovely children into the world, and her true joy in life was her family, her kids, her grandkids and her great-grandkids. She welcomed them all with open arms and her love for them never wavered. Doris touched many people’s lives as nurse’s aide, piano teacher, teacher’s aide, accompanist at church and Canyonville Elementary School, and real estate broker. Doris was preceded by her husband, Frank, of 64 years. She is survived by son Frank Jr. (Pat), Roseburg, Ore., and their children, David, Melissa and Rex; son Steven (June), Azalea, Ore., and their children, Jeff and Kevin; daughter Darcy McCleary (Tommy), Medford, and their children, Sean and Brynn; and daughter Tami Elst, Roseburg, and her children, Josef and Charles Heenan; and 10 great-grandchildren. Doris was the glue that held our family together, and she will be greatly missed. A toast to you, Doris. Heaven will never be the same now that you are there. There will be a viewing at Chapel of the Roses, 965 W. Harvard, Roseburg, Ore., on Friday, Oct. 4, between 3 and 5 p.m. The funeral service for Doris will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m. at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens, 1056 NW Hicks St., Roseburg.
