A Shawano woman is facing a felony charge of harboring or aiding a felon who was wanted to by the U.S. Marshal’s office.
Jacqueline M. Weso, 45, could face 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty.
Shawano police had been assisting federal officers on and off for about two weeks trying to locate Bernard A. Fish, Sr., 47, after getting information that he might be in the city.
Fish was wanted for multiple crimes, including impersonating a federal officer, larceny, armed robber and parole violation, according to records from the U.S. Marshal’s Service. Some of those alleged offenses took place out of state, according to authorities, but he was also wanted in Wisconsin for a robbery with the use of force in Florence County.
His last known address was Shawano, according to court records. Several locations in the city were searched over the past week.
Shawano Police Chief Ed Whealon said Fish was located and taken into custody by Menominee Tribal Police on Wednesday.
Authorities had information that Fish had traveled to North Dakota and Florida in August, but returned to Wisconsin last month and had been spotted in Shawano on several occasions since Sept. 16.
On one of those occasions, Fish was seen in a vehicle driven by Weso, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint states Fish can be seen in a surveillance video with Weso visiting the drive-through of a bank in the city.
Early Tuesday, authorities set up surveillance on Weso’s residence where Fish was believed to be staying, according to the complaint.
Weso was pulled over and questioned about Fish when she left the residence, but told authorities she had not seen him for two months and refused to answer further questions, according to the complaint.
Weso was freed on a $1,000 signature bond after a hearing Thursday in Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court. She is due back for a preliminary hearing Oct. 30.
