What a beautiful fall October day! The sun is bouncing off my garland of leaves on the porch railings as they flutter in the breeze. I feel like I should be outside hanging my sheet ghost in the tree. But, here I am, sitting at the computer again, with the Packers game blaring behind me. It looks like the Pack is going to win this one, so that’s another plus for the day.

I thought you’d like a rundown of events to be presented by the Shawano County Arts Council and Box in the Wood Theatre Guild. We have our schedule complete for the rest of 2013 and 2014. Programs are at the Mielke Arts Center unless indicated otherwise. Clip this column and keep for reference.
Dec. 5-8: “Star Spangled Christmas Show,” written and directed by Mary-Beth Kuester and Kay Kuester Doran. This is our annual benefit show, with donations going to local charity.
March 1-2: “Ballet Backstage.” Milwaukee Ballet Dancers share facts and stories of ballet, along with a performance. Shawano Community High School auditorium.
April 4-6 and April 11-13: “Native Voices” features winning plays honoring the 100th anniversary of Jim Thorpe’s Olympic gold medal. Program supported by the Clintonville Area Community Foundation.
July 11-13 and July 18-20: “Seussical the Musical” is a musical romp with Dr. Seuss and friends. Great opportunity for kids to be on stage. Watch for audition notices.
July 27: 46th annual arts and crafts fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mielke Park. Contact Cheryl Folkerts, 715-745-6222.
Aug. 8-10: 36th Shawano Music Festival, featuring music in the park and indoor concerts.
Oct. 4-5: “Rest Assured,” a special showing during the Miles of Art Tour.
Oct. 9-12. “Rest Assured,” second weekend performances at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
