Norman A. Raeder Sr., 84, of the town of Wescott, Shawano, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Nov. 8, 2013, at his home. Norman was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Bear Creek, a son of the late William H. and Lily Ann (Wolfgram) Raeder.
He attended the Shawano schools. He later worked with his father doing construction work, farming and logging. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Norman had been employed at Foremost Foods for over 20 years, working as a truck driver. He retired from Foremost in 1984. He is a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Following his retirement he pursued his hobby, which was repairing all types of equipment. Norman enjoyed his trips to the casino and working in his garden.
Survivors include his life partner and caregiver, Gertrude “Doll” Zander, of the town of Wescott; three sons, Norman A. “Champ” Raeder Jr., of Bonduel, Daniel J. Raeder, of Shawano, and Richard J. Raeder, of the town of Wescott; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Robert Lampinen, Wanda (Bob) Habeck, Carol (Dave) Schoenfeld, Mary (Curt) Braatz, Joseph (Charlene) Lampinen; two brothers, Raymond Raeder and Donald (Nancy) Raeder, both of the town of Wescott; many nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon, Victor, Gordon and Leland Raeder, and two sisters, Pearl Wilbur and Caroline Trutner.
Funeral services for Norman Raeder Sr. will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott. Relatives and friends may call at St. James Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
