Shawano Community High School senior Austin Lhotka led the Hawks cross-country team to a third-place finish at the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Invitational with a time of 17:44 Tuesday.
Following him were junior Andrew Cardish and sophomore Chase Lhotka with times of 18:24 and 18:44, respectively. Grifin Bohm and Michael Mault rounded out the top five for SCHS, which was only two points behind second place Seymour.
Bonduel freshman Jared Wondra led the Bears with a time of 19:23. Jake Moede ran the second-fastest time with a 19:58. Austin Kurey, John Shest and Josh Schill added to the Bears score of 225, good for eighth place.
Witt-Birn was led by junior Damon Wolff, who ran a 19:59, barely beating out Hunter Schroepfer’s time of 20:03. Austin Peplinksi, Ethin Wesolowski and Stetson Potrykus all ran within 10 seconds of each other for a team score of 271 and 10th place.
Menominee Indian High School took 15th place, led by senior Grant Gomeyosh, who ran the race in 18:56. Sonny Nacotee, Nikko Martinez and Adam Waukau posted times within 15 seconds of each other.
Little Chute won the invitational.
In the girls race, Wittenberg-Birnamwood posted the best score, a 77, which was 41 points better than runner-up Stratford.
All five runners for the Chargers ran within 57 seconds of each other, with Paige Norrbom leading the way with a time of 22:12. Siri Zeinert posted a 22:26, Emily Norrbom added a 22:52, Alexis Balliett raced to a 23:03 and Erica Wendler finished in 23:09.
The SCHS girls team placed 10th, with Teagan Monfils, the Hawks’ leading running, tying the time of Paige Norrbom. Kristy Kurtz and Madeline Hanson followed behind Monfils. Makayla Stoddart and Savannah Johnson rounded out the runners for the Hawks.
Bonduel sophomore Ashlyn Schnell led the Bears with a time of 24:42, as Laney Richmond posted a 24:59. Abigain Palmer, Megan Fischer and Arianna Factor also raced for Bonduel.
