Nora Elsie Eunice Engel, 96, of Shawano, found peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Monday morning, Sept. 14, 2015, at the Baldwin Care Center in Baldwin, where she had relocated to be closer to her daughter, Jane.
Nora was born on Jan. 1, 1919, in the town of Richmond, Shawano County, a daughter of the late Arthur and Lena (Sommers) Gueths. She attended country school in the town of Richmond. Following school, she moved to Green Bay and was employed at Kraft Foods. On April 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Rudolph (Rudy) A. Engel at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the town of Richmond. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in the town of Richmond for nearly 20 years. She, along with her husband, owned and operated Engel Moving and Storage in Shawano, which they ran for many years. Her husband, Rudy, preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1992.
Nora was active serving her community by working at the local thrift shop as a volunteer. She loved to bake bread and was known for her pecan pie.
Survivors include her loving children, Judy (Robert) Henke, of Clarinda, Iowa, Wayne (Sandra) Engel, of Shawano, and Jane (Dennis) Soderberg, of Baldwin; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Chester Gueths, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; two sisters, Elfrieda (Marvin) Buettner, of Shawano, and Betty (Sam) Cartwright, of Pine River; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Gueths, of Shawano ,and Mary Gueths, of the U.K.; and many nieces and nephews.
Nora was preceded in death by six brothers, Reinhold, Lawrence, Alfred, August, Fred and Carl Gueths.
Funeral services for Nora will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Travis Kleinschmidt will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
