Navarino Nature Center will hold its fall open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10.
The event includes wagon rides through the Navarino Wildlife Area, a scavenger hunt, prairie maze, children’s crafts, face painting and an apple cider press. Guests also will be able to make scarecrows, build bird feeders, dip candles and make rope. There will be food and other family friendly activities as well.
The nature center also will hold its 10th annual geocache event that day. All caches are hidden in the refuge area of the wildlife area, so as not to impact hunting on the wildlife area.
The day will end with a sunset wagon ride at 4 p.m. Seating is limited to 25 people; reservations are required. This is a rustic 2 1/2-hour wagon ride through the wildlife area. Bumps, branches and wildlife are all part of the experience on the ride from the nature center to the Wolf River flowages and back. Wildlife observed in previous years includes ducks, geese, egrets, Sandhill cranes, river otters, owls, beavers and more. The ride costs $5 for NNC members and $10 for the general public.
