The Shawano Police Department will hold a “pinning” ceremony Monday to formally pin the badges on its three most recent hires, even though the officers have been with the department for several months.
Police Chief Mark Kohl said training schedules and other time conflicts delayed pinning ceremonies for the officers until now.
The ceremony for officers Tony Escalante, Heidi Cartwright and Brent Dilge will be held at 5 p.m. Monday in the Community Room at City Hall, 127 S. Sawyer St.
Dilge is the newest member to join the department. He is a 2012 Fox Valley Technical School graduate with an applied science degree and certification in criminal justice.
After graduating, Dilge worked as a patrol deputy for the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department. He also worked as a correctional officer and loss prevention officer prior to his patrol work.
Dilge grew up near Bear Creek and is married. His first day with the city was Aug. 31.
Cartwright joined the department on May 19. She has been employed for the past 13 years at the College of Menominee Nation as a member of the faculty, teaching courses related to the criminal justice and social science disciplines. Prior to working at CMN, she served as a police officer in Manawa, where she still maintains a part-time position.
Cartwright was raised in Shawano and is a graduate of Shawano High School. She possesses a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and an undergraduate degree in administration, with a minor in psychology, from Marian University of Fond du Lac. Heidi attended the Fox Valley Technical College recruit academy to gain her law enforcement certification. She is married and has two children.
Escalante joined the Police Department on March 30. He came from the Menominee Tribal Police Department, where he worked different assignments during his 17 years there. Most recently he was assigned as a detective in the investigative division.
Escalante has an associate’s degree from ITT in Green Bay. He recently completed his reciprocity exam with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Law Enforcement Standards Board to obtain his law enforcement officer certification. He is taking classes for his bachelor’s degree at CMN.
Escalante is a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He is married and has several children.
