Leonard William Giese, 88, of Gillett, passed away on Dec. 1, 2015, in Gillett.
Leonard was born on Jan. 21, 1927, in Hayes, the son of the late Harry A. and Louise (Buhrandt) Giese.
Leonard entered the Army at 18 years old and was able to travel all over the United States. He ended up stationed in Berlin, Germany, where he spent his time translating because he spoke fluent German, which he learned as a child while helping his grandpa around the farm.
After his honorable discharge from the military, he spent two years sailing the Great Lakes. On June 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marjory Miller in Gillett. He worked as a laborer at Warvels and Briggs and Stratton in Milwaukee until he retired. He was a volunteer crossing guard for Gillett Schools and a volunteer firefighter for the Gillett Fire Department. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing cars and lawn mowers, and playing the accordion.
Leonard was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marjory; their children, Carol (Rod) Daniels, Barbara (Pat Forst) Giese and Randy (Lorie) Giese, all of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Chris (Tracy) Giese, Jesse and Josh Walkush; great-grandchildren, Amber, Colin and Ian Weiss, Alexis, Haley and Tuff Giese, Zane Davies, Gavin and Garrett Bergemann, Brittney and Cole Walkush; as well as one sister, Marlene (Reynold) Schmidt, of Bonduel.
He was preceded in death by one son, Gerald “Jerry” Giese, in 2004; his parents; and his brother, Marvin.
Private family services will be held.
