Shawano County’s 312th barn quilt is a bright gold sunrise pattern, with a silhouette of a rooster, appropriately called Rise and Shine. It is on display on a barn on a farm owned by Bill and Nancy Netzel, E10112 Behnke Road, Clintonville.
“We had wanted to sponsor a quilt for our barn for quite some time, and we think it turned out beautifully,” Nancy Netzel said. “We just love it!”
The Netzels celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this past August and decided to sponsor their barn quilt to honor that milestone.
Bill and Nancy bought their farmette with 3 acres on April 1, 1991, from Sam Wait, who was renting out the house, barn and land. Prior to that, Irvin and Roena Pomrening owned the property with 55 acres from 1938 until 1988. Irvin and Roena had six children and had a dairy herd, raised pigs and chickens and had some horses.
Bill and Nancy have three children, Dylan, 22, Aubrey, 19 and Forrest, 15. They raise a few steers, pigs and chickens. The whole family has been very active in the Belle Plaine 4-H Club, and all have exhibited at the Shawano County Fair.
Bill and Nancy are on the poultry/rabbit key committee for Shawano County 4-H, thus the poultry theme for their barn quilt pattern.
The Netzel barn quilt was painted by the Shawano County barn quilt committee and was put on display by LeRoy and Keith Raddant of Raddant Electric in Shawano.
