Richard “Stubby” Menge, 57, of Tigerton, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Richard Allen Menge was born on July 5, 1958, in Tigerton to Alfred and Mildred (Roth) Menge. He attended Tigerton schools and as a young man started working in the logging industry. In his earlier years, Stubby drove log truck for his brother, Jim, for a short time. In the early 1980s, he bought a semi-trailer truck and started as an owner and operator. It was around 1984 that Stubby met the love of his life, Renata, and he was an over-the-road truck driver up until the time that they got married. On Sept. 14, 1996, he was united in marriage to Renata L. Allaire at Zion Lutheran Church, Tigerton.
To be closer to home, Stubby started R.A.M. Trucking and Excavating of Tigerton. He purchased some heavy equipment and really liked doing excavating work for folks all around the area.
Stubby was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Tigerton. He enjoyed the outdoors, gun deer hunting, watching old television shows and playing with his big “toys.” Collecting guns and watching action movies or science fiction shows, especially “The X-Files,” were his favorite pastimes.
Stubby will be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor and as a devoted husband and a loving father.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Renata, and two daughters, Sashe and Paige Menge, of Tigerton. There are seven sisters, Gloria (Don) Fisher, of Texas, Pat Kriesel, of Eland, Dianne Pingel, of Tigerton, Betty Lou (Dave) Kriesel, of Tigerton, Linda (Lowell) Johnson, of Tigerton, Debra (Terry) Deruchowski, of Clintonville, and Carol Menge, of Wittenberg. There is one brother, James (Barb) Menge, of Tigerton. There are three sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Ervin) Arndt, Doris Allaire and Wanda (Ricky) Arndt, all of Tigerton. There are two brothers-in-law, Calvin (Kim) Allaire, of Tigerton, and Scott (Connie) Allaire, of Elcho. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Stubby was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arden “Buckshot” and Harold, and two brothers-in-law, Art Kriesel and Robert Pingel.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 2, at noon at Zion Lutheran Church, Tigerton. The Rev. Dennis Nelson will officiate, and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
