The Oconto Falls High School volleyball team won a battle of Bay Conference undefeated teams Thursday in Luxemburg-Casco.
The Panthers held off a stiff challenge from the Spartans, winning in five sets to improve to 5-0 in the Bay.
After dropping the first game 25-22, Oconto Falls rebounded to win the next two 25-21, 25-14.
In the third game, Oconto Falls (5-0) looked to be on its way to putting Luxemburg-Casco (5-1) away, leading at one point 17-9.
“We just couldn’t put it away,” Oconto Falls coach Dawn Larsen said. “We made some mistakes.”
Luxemburg-Casco rallied to win the game 25-23 and force a fifth game. Oconto Falls won the tie-breaker 15-10.
“It’s a big win for us,” coach Larsen said.
Oconto Falls’ McKenna Larsen had 31 kills, 20 assists and 14 digs. Carly Lemke added 21 kills. Liz Watzka had 28 assists.
Luxemburg-Casco’s Maggie Liebeck led with 23 kills. Alecia Cherney added 21 assists. Lexi Kinnard had 16 digs.
The win set up Tuesday’s match against Hortonville (5-0) for the lead in the Bay Conference. Results from that match were not available by the Times Herald’s press time.
