Joan Conrad

Joan “Joanie” Conrad, 79, Lena, went to be with her husband, Cletus, on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. She was born on Aug. 21, 1934, in Hickory to the late Bernard and Lois (Wood) Gilligan. On July 6, 1957, Joanie married Cletus Conrad at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Suring. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 2003. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Joanie loved traveling with Cletus, trips to the casino with family and friends, crossword puzzles, and she enjoyed the many dogs that she had over the years. No one will ever forget her strong Irish sense of humor. Survivors include six children, Kelly Conrad and special friend Chris Herbert, De Pere, Clint (Becky) Conrad, Lena, Debbie (Randy) Birr, Oconto Falls, Randy and special friend Linda Schuh, Lena, Lori (Denny) Graef, Lena, and Robin (Buzz) Nelson, Lena; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee (Audrey) Gilligan, Suring, and Denny (Kathy) Gilligan, Gillett; two sisters, Judy Blazek, Little Suamico, and Rosie (Ray) Ostrenga, Oconto Falls; one brother-in-law, Joe Kopke, Little Suamico; four sisters-in-law, Alice Gaywont, Gillett, Lorraine Behnke, Peshtigo, Claudine Conrad, Lena, and Marion Walls, Oconto; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle and Jack Gilligan. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Lena, Parish wake service is at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m. with Deacon Peter Gard officiating. Interment will be at St. Charles Cemetery, Lena. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gerald Bayer, Holly, of Green Bay Oncology, Unity Hospice, ninth floor staff at St. Vincent Hospital, especially nurse Theresa, and The MeadowLands assisted living of Oconto Falls.
