A search is under way for a new police chief in Suring. Applications for the position were due Friday, and a village committee was scheduled to start its review of the applications this week.
Police Chief Nick School, a Suring native, continues to work part time for the village but has taken a job with the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office. He resigned from his full-time duties at the village in June.
“Suring is a great community to work in and I enjoyed working here for the last four years,” School said, “and I would like to thank the village of Suring for providing me the opportunity to manage the Suring Police Department.”
According to School, the knowledge and experience in administration he gained as Suring’s police chief will benefit him in the years to come.
School was hired as part-time officer in charge on June 1, 2011, and began full-time duties on Sept. 19, 2011. He replaced Police Chief Ken Pusich, who retired in December 2010 after 22 years with the department.
Beginning in 2011, the village used community support and grant funding to update equipment and improve the overall workings of the department, including instituting the Suring Police Department as a substation for the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office.
School will assist the village with its hire of a new full-time chief of police; 14 people applied. Village officials said it will be at least a few months until a new chief is hired.
