Don Bartels Jr., of Lakewood, has been appointed to the Oconto County Board of Supervisors. He will fill the unexpired two-year term of Tom Gryboski, of Lakewood, who resigned on July 16. The term expires in April 2016.
Bartels, who owns McCauslin Brook Golf Course with his brothers Ted and Rick, thanked Gryboski for his service to the county and said he appreciates the opportunity to sit in the same seat held by his father. Don Bartels Sr. was a County Board supervisor from 1957-1964 and 1982-1998. During his tenure, he was County Board chairman from 1988-1998.
Supervisory District 30 includes part of Riverview and all of Lakewood.
At Thursday’s County Board meeting. County Clerk Kim Pytleski read a letter of recommendation from the towns of Riverview and Lakewood, noting Bartels’ common sense and decision-making skills exhibited during his 14 years as Lakewood town supervisor. His final year as a town supervisor was 1994.
Chairman Lee Rymer announced the appointment, which supervisors unanimously approved. Bartels was named to the county’s economic development and tourism committee.
Gryboski’s committee assignments were divided among several supervisors. Rymer appointed Karl Ballestad to the board of adjustment and Gary Frank to the finance and insurance committee and technical services committee.
Al Stranz was elected to the highway committee.
