A memorial to Wisconsin servicemen and women who lost their lives serving in Iraq and Afghanistan has been moved to Veterans War Memorial Park in Wabeno.
The crosses displayed as a tribute to Wisconsin soldiers were originally purchased and displayed by Kathleen and Jon Marsh on their Memorial Island on the Townsend Flowage. The island was open for the public to pay their respects.
Because the number of fallen Wisconsin soldiers continues to grow and the island space is limited, the Marshes offered to move the crosses to the newly completed Veterans War Memorial Park in Wabeno.
Gerry LaFont, of Boy Scout Troop 1048 in Lakewood, designed the layout of the memorial. American Legion Post 44 of Wabeno is a sponsor for LaFont, who is working toward his Eagle Badge.
Blackwell Job Corps has been a valued asset in the completion of Veterans War Memorial Park and the memorial. Work at the park continues; meanwhile, the public is invited to enjoy the park and pay their respects.
