Oconto Falls is sending two players to the Fox River American Legion senior all-star game in Kimberly.
Outfielders Connor Sefcik and Brett Ash will represent the American Conference in the game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Park.
Both are first-time selections.
“It made me feel great that people recognize me for the hard work I did throughout the season,” Sefcik said.
Sefcik played all 25 of Oconto Falls’ games and batted .419, third on the team. He collected six doubles, knocked in 19 runs, and had 31 hits in 74 at bats.
“When I went up there, I just tried to hit anything that was close,” Sefcik said. “I just couldn’t be afraid of anything, even hit by pitches. I learned to be more relaxed up there.”
“He is pretty good in right field, and he has thrown people out at first base a few times this year,” Ash said.
In 19 games, Ash had 13 hits, three doubles and five RBIs. He also drew 13 walks and scored 13 runs.
Ash missed a portion of the season due to appendicitis, but returned shortly before the Class A Legion regional.
“I got hurt around July 4 and was out for two weeks because of that,” Ash said. “It feels good to be picked this year, because we had a really good team.”
Defensively, Ash committed no errors, produced on outfield assist and held a 1.000 fielding percentage.
“He fielded great for us in the outfield for us all season,” Sefcik said.
Oconto Falls’ Gerry Yogerst will be one of the American Conference’s coaches.
This will be the first year the all-star game is played at Sunset Park. It previously was played at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
