“Sweet Caroline,” the fourth annual Red Light Saloon Show, will be presented at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Townsend Town Hall on state Highway 32.
Written and directed by Kathleen Marsh and narrated by Marcia Wahoske, this musical comedy stars Al Benson as Deacon, a ladies man turned preacher who lives at the saloon as he tends his tiny flock and keeps his brother, Whiskey Jack (Jon Marsh), in line.
Due to a train mishap, Deacon reconnects with Caroline Goodenough (Mary Benson), the girl he left behind. Determined not to lose his Sweet Caroline again, Deacon proposes, but Caroline refuses since he has no church and cannot provide a proper home.
In desperation, Deacon decides to head to the Klondike in search of gold. Equally desperate is Deacon’s sister-in-law Cathouse Cate (Kathleen Marsh), who dare not let her husband, Jack, out from under Deacon’s watchful gaze. Cate persuades the local business owners to sponsor a Church-a-Thon to raise money for a parsonage and a church.
The all-volunteer supporting cast includes Shirley Ashbeck, Gary Baum, Jerry Bodoh, Judi Fellows, Bev Gerndt, Lee Gerndt, Don Franzen, Cindy Jonet, Bruce Karow, Marilyn Karow, Pat Lowery, Annette Neitzer, Bruce Resler, Cindy Resler, Kris Vandervest and Scott Wycherley.
Proceeds from the show go to the Holt & Balcom Logging Camp Museum in Lakewood.
Admission is $8, and tickets will be available at the door. Doors open one hour prior to each performance, and musical entertainment will start a half-hour prior to each show. Beer, soda and snacks will be available.
