Woodland Village Nursing Center of Suring selected Milton Christensen as the October Resident of the Month.
Christensen was born on June 3, 1920, on the family farm in Hickory Corners. He was one of three siblings, the middle child. He went to school in the one-room schoolhouse in Hickory Corners until the eighth grade.
After Christensen left school, he had various jobs. He worked on the family farm, then he went to work at Nelson’s cheese factory for approximately three years. He also worked as a Caterpillar driver in the woods, skidding logs. He worked for Oconto County as a snowplow driver for a year until he bought the family farm to do what he really loved to do — farm.
He met his wife, Irene Kane, in the town of Hickory and after a two-year courtship was married in the Methodist church in Oconto Falls. They raised five children, four sons and one daughter, on the family farm. For enjoyment when the family could get away from the farm, they would camp and fish at Kuntuck Lake.
Christensen enjoyed deer hunting every year just north of state Highway 64 with one of his best friends.
“I shot the biggest buck of my life, a very nice 20-pointer,” he said.
