Louis Otto Winkler

Louis Otto Winkler, 88, of the town of Underhill (Gillett), passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at Atrium PAC of Evergreen in Shawano. The son of the late Otto and Clara (Schoenbeck) Winkler, Louie was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Gillett. He graduated from Gillett High School in 1944. He married Joanne Marie Dittman on Sept. 24, 1949, at Christ Lutheran Church in the town of Underhill. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 1991. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Finnegan Walleye Club and Underhill Sportsman’s Club. Louie enjoyed many years as clerk of the town of Underhill and as supervisor on the Oconto County Board, especially the committee of forest, lands and parks. A joy was making maple syrup with the guys in the woods; an even greater joy was fishing, which he did often. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by four daughters, Betty Joanne (Thomas) Edler, of Cecil, Gloria Jean (William) Buchholz, of Gillett, Jane Marie Winkler, of Gillett, and Becky Jo (Donald) Pockat, of Gillett; two sons, Jim Louis (Cindy Lou), of Gillett, and Tommie Ervin (Diane), of Wisconsin Rapids; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Winkler and Florence Winkler, both of Gillett, and Vivian Dittman, of Green Bay. Friends may call on Friday from 9-11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church (Hintz). Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church (Hintz), with the Rev. Michael Paholke officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Kuehl Funeral Home of Gillett (920-855-2144) is serving the family of Louis Winkler.
