Monte McDermid, 72, Green Bay, died Sunday morning, Nov. 29, 2015, at Parkview Manor. The third oldest of 10 children was born Nov. 22, 1943, in West Allis to Francis and Doris (Exferd) McDermid.
Monte moved with his family as a young boy to Oconto Falls, where he attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1961. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Ethiopia. In 1971, he married Catherine Phillipsen, and they had three children together.
Monte lived in the Green Bay area most of his life and was employed as a truck driver. Monte enjoyed teaching his kids to play cribbage, following the Packers, listening to polka music, playing solitaire and the taste of blackberry brandy.
Survivors are his three children, Terri (Gus) Tanner, Pulaski, Scott (Jenny) McDermid, Seymour, and Brian (Corissa) McDermid, Sussex; five grandchildren, Kristian McDermid, Tyler and Willow Tanner, Dylan and Geoffrey McDermid; three brothers, Bill “Dawg” (Kaye) McDermid, Pulaski, Leon (Jo) McDermid, Athelstine, and Jon (Kelly) McDermid, Bonduel; three sisters, Peggy O’Mara and Sue McDermid, both of New London, and Jan (friend Dorn) McDermid, Shawano; one sister-in-law, Darlene McDermid, Green Bay; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Glen, Gary and Paul McDermid.
Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with his nephew, Brother Geoff McDermid officiating. Cremation will follow.
The McDermid family would like to thank Parkview Manor for the care given Monte during his stay with them.
