OFHS awarded $5,000 for classroom technology

Oconto Falls High School was selected as the runner-up of Cellcom’s Project Innovate in the Northeast Wisconsin region. The school will receive $5,000 from Cellcom and Nsight Telservices for the purchase of classroom technology. In October, Cellcom invited high schools in Shawano, Oconto, Menominee and Marinette counties to participate in the community voting challenge; 15 schools participated. The $25,000 grand prize winner was scheduled to be announced this week. Members of the OFHS Student Council accepted the runner-up award Dec. 9 at the high school. Project Innovate winners were determined by the number of qualified votes cast for each school during the monthlong voting period, Oct. 19-Nov. 20. The community voting program hinged on schools mobilizing their supporters. Bruce Russell, high school principal, thanked Cellcom and Nsight Telservices for giving the school the opportunity to earn money for technology purchases. He also thanked the individuals who voted during the Project Innovate voting period. “I am eternally grateful for the continued support that our community gives our schools and would like to express my gratitude to the students, parents, employees and community members and everyone else who took the time to vote for Oconto Falls High School to help us win the $5,000 second prize,” he said. “We work hard to find ways to give back to education locally and love how communities come together to rally behind their schools during the challenge,” said Brighid Riordan, director of public affairs for Cellcom and Nsight Telservices. “Technology is a necessity in schools, but growing price tags and shrinking budgets can make these items less attainable. Project Innovate aims to bridge the gap and give schools the opportunity to meet their technological needs and enhance education overall. Improving schools is something that everyone in a community can get behind and we are proud to offer this support.” This is the sixth year that Cellcom has held Project Innovate in partnership with Nsight Telservices. Through the program, the companies have donated $325,000 to schools across their service area.
