Jimmy “Jim” Ziemer, 76, Abrams, died suddenly of natural causes early Friday morning, Dec. 25, 2015. He was born on Jan. 6, 1939, in Marinette County to Edmund and Lucy (Dora) Ziemer.
Jim grew up in the Pound/Coleman area, where he attended school, graduating from Coleman High School with the Class of 1957. In his teens, he hung out at the local Ford dealership, where he pursued an interest in automobiles and how they worked.
Also as a young man, Jim served in the U.S. Army National Guard, Company C, Division 127, from 1955 until 1962. On Oct. 13, 1962, he married Beverly Van Drisse in Pound. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Oconto and Oconto Falls before settling in Abrams in the late 1960s. Jim worked as an automobile mechanic for all of his adult life, first for a GM dealership in Green Bay before coming to Parsons Chevrolet and retiring from Jim Kane Chevrolet/Buick after 32 years of dedicated service.
Jim was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coleman and the Abrams American Legion Post. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and just tinkering with things all his life.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Beverly Ziemer, Abrams; their two children, Lynn (Melissa) Ziemer, Oconto Falls, and Amy (Jeff) Daanen, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Mason Ziemer, a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Emmah, Ally and Brandon Daanen, all at home; nieces, nephews and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Susan Ziemer; one brother, Edmund Ziemer Jr.; and a grandson, Bennett Ziemer.
Visitation was held after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with his cousin, Don Couwenhoven. officiating. Burial with military honors will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery on Wednesday.
