Gary ‘Kelly’ Steffens Sr.

Gary “Kelly” Steffens Sr., born March 14, 1938, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Friday, April 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Judy (Rosenberg) Steffens; daughter, Sandy (Steffens) Finegan; parents; in-laws; brother; brothers-in-law; sister-in-law; nieces and nephews. He is survived by his children, Fonda Fischer (Scott), Kelli Lax (Kory), Gary Steffens (Carole), Matt Steffens (Catherine), Chris Gabriel (Sean), David Steffens (Shanda), Dan Steffens (Amy), Jessica Noche (Alvin); 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. After graduating from Oconto Falls High School in 1957, he served in the Army for four years. During his service, he married the love of his life, Judy. Kelly was a passionate car lover, especially vintage cars and antique gas pumps, restoring countless Fords and gas pumps throughout his years. His children have fond memories of being dragged to car shows, especially in Iola, and swap meets throughout their childhood. He was a creative visionary when he worked on his cars, gas pumps and homes. He enjoyed the many years they lived on the family land and was grateful for their time near the Oconto River. Kelly was the second-generation owner of Steffens Brothers Roofing and eventually took it over for 25 years. He then went on to do Kelly’s Seamless Gutters in his “retirement.” He was probably most known for his sense of humor, jokes and storytelling. You could always count on him to lighten the mood in any situation. He didn’t hesitate to tell you what he was thinking and often had a strong opinion about things. … which we all respected. He loved going to the “board meetings” on Thursday nights and the Friday night fish fry at River Island Golf Course. He was well loved by his family and community. We’ll all miss ya “Pilgrim!” Family and friends may visit Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon at Jones Funeral Service, Oconto Falls. Mass of Christian Burial with the urn present will follow at 12:30 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Services will conclude with the burial at St. Anthony Cemetery, Oconto Falls. Special thanks to the ICU at Bellin East Hospital, especially Justin; he was amazing!
