Shawano boys go 1-3 in duals

Shawano wrestlers had a tough time of it Jan. 3 in Shiocton, going 1-3 in their dual matchups. “We met two very good teams in Slinger and Shiocton,” coach Mike Homan said. “Both of those teams have very solid lineups, and points do not come easy against those teams. We did have some wins but just came up short midway through both meets.” Shawano’s win came against Medford, with a loss following against Kiel. “In our final match, we battled back and forth with Kiel, but in the end, we gave up too many bonus points that we could not overcome and we dropped our third dual of the night.” Some individuals that stood out were Dane Hodkiewicz going 4-0 on the night, Kody Popelka going 3-1 and Jack Dietz also going 3-1 on the night. “We had some other young wrestlers step up and get some nice wins as well,” Homan said. “Dane has been wrestling well and did a great job tonight by earning four victories. He is starting to wrestle really well. Kody did a great job battling and getting bonus points for the team.” Popelka is leading the team in pins and he added to that with two more at Shiocton. “Jack Dietz did a nice job as well adding three wins to his season total,” Homan said. “He has been working hard and that work is paying off for him.”
