The College of Menominee Nation (CMN) has a new bachelor of arts degree program in integrated studies in sustainability (ISS) for prospective college students seeking an interdisciplinary education rooted in Indigenous values and sustainability principles.
This innovative program offers students an opportunity to tailor their education through two distinct emphasis tracks: sustainability and communications.
“Our new bachelor of arts in integrated studies in sustainability responds directly to the needs of our students and community,” said Vicki Besaw, CMN faculty member and ISS program director. “By integrating Indigenous value systems with sustainability principles, this program prepares graduates to address complex environmental and social challenges with a culturally informed perspective.”
The ISS program is designed to equip students with essential skills in critical thinking, effective communication and sustainable practices. Students will engage with more than 30 elective and specialized emphasis courses that allow for personalized educational experiences. This flexibility enables students to pursue areas of interest that align with their career aspirations and personal goals.
Program graduates will be prepared for careers dedicated to community and environmental well-being. Potential employers include tribal and public sector entities, socially responsible nonprofit organizations and environmentally conscious businesses. Positions range from entry-level roles to mid-management and research positions, offering a broad spectrum of career opportunities.
