Wisconsin egg production during May was 204 million eggs, down 7% from the previous May, according to the latest Chickens and Eggs report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The average number of all layers on hand during May was 7.83 million, down 6% from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for May was 2,609, down 1% from a year ago.
United States egg production totaled 9.10 billion during May, down 2% from last year. Production included 7.81 billion table eggs, and 1.30 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.20 billion were broiler-type and 99.7 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during May totaled 372 million, down 3% from last year. May egg production per 100 layers was 2,450 eggs, up 1% from May 2023.
Total layers in the United States on June 1 totaled 371 million, down 3% from last year. The 371 million layers consisted of 306 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.7 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs and 3.83 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on June 1 averaged 78.9 eggs per 100 layers, up 1% from June 1, 2023.
Egg-type chicks hatched during May totaled 58.2 million, down 1% from May 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 56.6 million on June 1, up 2% from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 257,000 during May, down 1% from May 2023.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during May totaled 860 million, up 1% from May 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 736 million on June 1, up 1% from a year ago.
