Former Shawano School District Superintendent Randi Anderson has been hired as superintendent for the Sevastopol School District in Door County, according to a press release from the Sevastopol district.
Anderson was selected from three finalists interviewed by the Sevastopol School Board on June 5. The board approved her hire on June 11.
“Ms. Anderson brings the experience we need as an educator and leader to help transition our very good school district to a great one” said Board President Lisa Bieri. “In her tenure as an educator, she has established a clear record of managing budgets, resources, and partnerships to improve student achievement. She brings expertise in strategic planning, curriculum development, long-range facility planning, and personalized learning to ensure all students graduate college, career, and community ready.”
Anderson was hired by the Shawano School District in 2019 and resigned from her position three years later in September 2022. As part of her separation from the district, she was paid the remainder of her contract, which totaled about $400,000 in salary and benefits through the end of June this year, and Shawano School Board President Mike Musolff was required to provide Anderson with a letter of recommendation.
Anderson’s resignation came after months of turmoil in Shawano, including a claim that the district had a $2.2 million budget deficit that later turned out to be a $2.6 million surplus, and with it the layoffs of a number of employees and the potential to close a school. In the months leading up to Anderson’s resignation, more than 60 employees left the district, including all of the principals and associated principals and most of the administrative team.
A petition was circulated in the community seeking Randi Anderson’s removal that received over 1,200 signatures. Two school board members were targeted for recall because of their support for Anderson, but both resigned shortly after the recall petitions were submitted. Three other board members resigned in 2022 during Anderson’s tenure.
According to the Sevastopol press release, Anderson has been working in the interim for Leading Transformative Solutions, LLC. The website for the company has no information on where it’s based but does list Anderson as one of its five education experts.
“As I step into the role of superintendent, I am eager to bring my background of over 30 years in public education as a teacher, administrator, educational consultant to the beautiful community of Sevastopol,” Anderson said in the press release. “I am committed to working with you to continue to foster a student-focused model of education and promote excellence within our schools. My goal is to collaborate closely with educators, parents, and community members to ensure we continue to provide the best possible educational experience for our students.”
