Shawano duo earns top spot at subsectionals

May 18 West De Pere/Bay Port Invite The Hawks tennis team finished up the regular season with three duals in two days at the West De Pere/Bay Port Invite. The Hawks were unable to capture a team win, but they had some significant individual victories. George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon secured the No. 1 seed at the WIAA subsectional tournament with a 6-0, 7-6 (1) victory over Bay Port. On Day 2, the No. 1 doubles team competed strongly against a talented Oshkosh West team but fell short. The N0. 2 doubles team of Tristan Tetting and Isaac Welander went 2-0 on the weekend with a No. 1 seed-clinching victory over Bay Port along with a victory over Oshkosh West. The Hawks move onto the WIAA tournament with the first stop being subsectionals at Western Racquet and 4 Seasons. Bay Port 5, Shawano 2 Winning for the Hawks were Buerman and Sheldon at No. 1 doubles, and Tetting and Welander at No. 2 doubles. Oshkosh West 6, Shawano 1 Shawano’s only win against Oshkosh West came from Welander and Tetting at No. 2 doubles. They won 6-4, 6-1. Kohler 7, Shawano 0 Tanner Thiel, at No. 3 singles, had the most wins for Shawano, losing 6-3, 6-1 to Aidan Schueller. Shawano is 7-10. May 17 Shawano 4, Green Bay Southwest 3 The No. 1 doubles team of George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon improved to 14-2, and the No. 2 doubles team of Tristan Tetting and Isaac Welander moved to 12-4. Andrew Vandenheuvel won 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 at No. 1 singles. Sheldon and Buerman won 6-1, 6-0, while Tetting and Welander won 6-3, 6-2.
