The May 8 trial of an Oconto Falls man for homicide by the intoxicated use of a motor vehicle was postponed when the defense attorney fell ill.
Thomas Edward Wolf, 57, is charged in connection with a crash Aug. 3, 2022, that claimed the life of Bart Erdman, 60, also of Oconto Falls.
Oconto County Judge Michael Judge received a note from the attorney’s office May 7 that he was expected to be in the hospital for at least several days. Judge canceled the trial, which had been set to run three days, and scheduled a status conference for 11:45 a.m. June 13 to determine how the case will proceed.
The criminal complaint indicates Erdman was on a motorcycle and Wolf was driving a pickup truck, both of them traveling south on County Road I near Beaver Lake Road in the Town of Oconto Falls, when the truck rear-ended the motorcycle.
Erdman was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Wolf’s truck overturned and came to rest in the ditch.
Pending the trial, Wolf remains free after posting a $50,000 cash bond.
