Wisconsin egg production during March was 207 million eggs, up 4% from the previous March, according to the latest Chickens and Eggs report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The average number of all layers on hand during March 2024 was 7.81 million, up 2% from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for March was 2,650, up 2% from a year ago.
United States egg production totaled 9.29 billion during March 2024, up 1% from last year. Production included 7.99 billion table eggs, and 1.30 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.20 billion were broiler-type and 101 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during March 2024 totaled 379 million, down 1% from last year. March egg production per 100 layers was 2,455 eggs, up 2% from March 2023.
Total layers in the United States on April 1 totaled 379 million, down 1% from last year. The 379 million layers consisted of 313 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.9 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.90 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on April 1, 2024, averaged 79.5 eggs per 100 layers, up 2% from April 1, 2023.
Egg-type chicks hatched during March 2024 totaled 56.5 million, down 4% from March 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 56 million on April 1, 2024, up 1% from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 198 thousand during March 2024, down 1% from March 2023.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during March 2024 totaled 854 million, up 1% from March 2023. Eggs in incubators totaled 735 million on April 1, 2024, up 1% from a year ago.
