Shawano’s boys tennis team defeated Ashwaubenon 5-2 in the opening contest of the 2024 season April 9.
The Hawks (1-0) won all three doubles matches and a pair of singles at Pioneer Park in Ashwaubenon.
At No. 2 singles, Benjamin Langlois, Shawano defeated Jonathan Bielke, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (4), while at No. 3, Shawano’s Ryan Buerman beat Elliot Hujet, 6-4 , 6-7 (2) , 10-8.
In doubles action, George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon topped Landon Gottfedson and Logan Van Gheen, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1. In the No. 2 match, Tristan Tetting and Isaac Welander beat Dylan Younk and Ryan Lai, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 3, Mason Sparks and Domenic Badalamenti defeated Owen Herald and Ashkath Yandawath, 6-1, 6-1.
The two Shawano losses came at No. 1 singles in which Quinn Nooyan shut out Andrew Vandenheuvel, 6-0, 6-0, and No. 4 singles, in which Ben Buchmann beat Cristian Hernandez, 6-3 , 7-6.
