Shawano’s baseball season got off on the right foot with a 5-0 shutout of Two Rivers at home on March 28.
The Hawks racked up their five runs on six hits, while Two Rivers connected for one hit and committed two errors.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Warner Beyer laid down a safety squeeze bunt to score Dylan Hodkiewicz. The Hawks scored two more in the fifth off of two errors committed by the Purple Raiders.
Shawano added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to round out the run total.
Crew Weisnicht led Shawano at the plate, hitting 2-for-3. Jerzy Brocker, Carsen Herm, Parker Beyer and Anderson Schmidt each had a hit for the Hawks. Warner Beyer had a pair of RBIs.
Pete Bruette picked up the win, pitching six innings and striking out nine, walking three and giving up no hits. Brocker pitched one inning, gave up one hit and struck out two.
Lena
Lena crushed Green Bay NEW Lutheran 10-0 on March 28.
Ty Shallow was the winning pitcher.
Lena scored in all five innings, including a three-run second inning and a four-run third inning.
Pulaski
The Red Raiders opened the 2024 season at a tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., losing their March 26 to the Falcons of Briar Woods (Virginia) 8-4.
For Pulaski’s part, Kyle Olson scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
On March 27, the woes continued for the Red Raiders, as Pulaski lost 7-1 to the Pickerington North Panthers (Ohio).
Jacob McDonald got on base in all three of his plate appearances, including a triple.
Pulaski’s loss dropped their record to 0-2.
