Suring leads area schools at UW-O invite

Suring collected 38 points and finished in ninth place out of 42 teams at the small-school invite at UW-Oshkosh on March 14. Oconto Falls collected 32 points and finished in 12th place, and Gillett scored six points and placed 36th. Ben Adams of Oconto Falls ran away with a first-place finish in the Division 2 3,200-meter run in 10:01.56. In the 60-meter hurdles for Division 3, Suring’s Trent VanDenElzen placed second in the prelims in 10.03 and then catapulted to first place in the finals with a time of 9.84. The preliminaries for Division 2 included hurdler Alex Haines of Oconto Falls placing sixth in 9.39 seconds. He was joined by teammate Emerich Skarban, who placed 14th in 10.01. In the finals, Haines finished in sixth place in 9.27. The D2 60-meter dash prelims included Conner Wilquet of Oconto Falls placing fifth in 9.32. Teammate Isaac Bramer finished 33rd in 7.74. In the finals, Wilquet was seventh in 7.36. The D3 prelims included Suring’s Jake Cornell in 14th in 7.81 and Dyllan Flynn in 28th in 8.21. Oconto Falls’ Brady Bursa, Bramer, Evan Yuma and Wilquet placed third in the D2 4x200-meter relay. In the D3 race, Suring’s Dayne Ermis, Kroix Kempka, Garret Peters and Flynn finished in 10th in 1:49. Adams grabbed second place in the D2 1,600-meter run. Gillett’s Scott Herroux placed eighth in 5:25.72 in the D3 event. Suring’s Gavin Staszik placed 14th in 6:13.57. Cornell raced to third place in the D3 400-meter dash in 55.82. Further back was Gillett’s Nash Stage, who placed 16th in 1:00.41. In the D2 800-meter run, Emerson Rice of Oconto Falls finished ninth in 2:12.87, and teammate Griffin Kopke was 12th in 2:16.15. Gillett’s Braydn Wendorff was fourth in the D3 800-meter run in 2:12.53. Suring’s Garrett School was 21st in 2:54.18. The D2 200-meter dash featured Bramer in 10th in 24.61, while the D3 event featured Peters in 16th in 26.66. Suring’s Quinn Thomson, Cornell, Ermis and VanDenElzen placed fourth in the D3 4x400-meter relay in 3.52.5. Haines and Skarban were neck-and-neck in the D2 high jump. Haines was in a six-way tie for 13th at 5 feet 6 inches, while Skarban was 19th at 5-04. In D3, Ermis placed ninth at 5-02. Division 2 long jumpers included Bursa in sixth place at 19-02.75, while D3 included Kempka in sixth at 18-06 and Thomson in 11th at 17-05. Bursa placed 13th in the D2 triple jump at 36-10. Throwing shot put in D2, Oconto Falls’ Bryce Schefdore placed 14th with a toss of 44 feet, and teammate Jonathan Moody was 38th at 37 feet. In Division 3, Suring’s Trent Thomson placed sixth at 36-07, while Gillett’s Zander Davis was 14th at 32-07.5 and Jedrick Herzog was 21st at 31 feet. Suring’s Cooper Rauch was 22nd at 30-08; teammate Bradly Bayer was 24th at 27-05.
