Info meeting planned on Columbia Street project

The city of Oconto Falls is hosting an informational meeting March 26 to provide residents with information about the planned reconstruction of Columbia Street from Chestnut Avenue to North Farm Road. The meeting is planned for 6 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 500 N. Chestnut Ave., Oconto Falls. “Our thought is to try to have a meeting — I’m hearing a lot of questions, and different people on different committees are getting questions as we’re doing stuff on Columbia Street — to have folks come in and see the plans, show where the sidewalks are going to be, and talk about the street repairs,” City Administrator Peter Wills told the council during its March 12 meeting. A public hearing is also planned for April 9 regarding the city’s application for a Community Development Block Grant to help fund the reconstruction, but Wills said that will be a more formal hearing, and the informational meeting format is more conducive to answering residents’ questions. The meeting is expected to cover the scope of the reconstruction including replacement of utilities, water lines, sewer and storm sewer; the planned installation of sidewalks along the south side of the street; and the anticipated detour while the project is underway. Residents will have an opportunity to provide input about the reconstruction project and proposed activities.
