Deadline for writing contest approaches

The deadline of April 6 is approaching for the 18th annual George Putz Memorial Student Writing Contest, sponsored by the Shawano Area Writers. There is no entry fee for student writers in grades 1-12 to submit as many entries as they would like in either fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or all three categories. Contest coordinator John Mutter Jr. announced that the judges for the 2024 contest are Jerry McGinley, of Waunakee, Christine Hawkinson, of Prairie du Sac, and Michael Belongie, of Beaver Dam. All entries are judged anonymously by the independent panel of writers. Students compete for a chance to win cash prizes and a certificate of achievement. The contest winners will be announced on the Shawano Area Writers’ website, www.shawanoareawriters.org, and recognized on May 19 at the Mielke Arts Center, N5649 Airport Road, Shawano.
