Spring is in the air, and that means warmer weather, Easter bunnies, cookouts — and construction zones.
For Wisconsin residents, road projects are like death and taxes; there is no escaping them.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has several projects planned for 2024 in the area. Among the first to get going will be the reconstruction of Highway 117 through Bonduel.
Work is scheduled to begin May 6 and will eventually stretch from Express Way to Mutzy Lane.
This work will consist of water and sewer repairs, replacement of the curb ramps and crossings, traffic light upgrades, and repaving of state Highway 117 through the village. Additional work will take place with the signals at County Road BE.
The tentative schedule has three phases.
First, from May 6 to June 5, there will be a complete road closure (impassable) on Highway 117 between Express Way and South Street.
Second, from June 6 to Aug. 13, the road will be completely closed (impassable) from South Street to County Road BE.
Finally, from Aug. 3-27, there will be flagged lane closures between County Road BE and Mutzy Lane.
Because this is a state project, village officials have little control over it at this time. Local officials said they sympathize with business owners and residents who will be affected by the project, but they ask for patience and understanding.
