Chenoa Webster has been chosen as the College of Menominee Nation’s Student of the Year.
She received an associate degree in early childhood education from CMN in May 2023 and is continuing to work toward her bachelor’s degree in elementary/middle school education.
Webster has always had a passion for working with children and youth development. She decided to return to college after being at the top level of her field that she could without having a degree, but feeling like she was not reaching her full potential.
She has been enrolled at CMN since fall 2020 and has fully immersed herself in the CMN community.
Webster’s academic experiences are noteworthy, including receiving the Indigenous Education Student internship at CMN’s Sustainable Development Institute, leading her to several opportunities, including traveling to Alaska and Norway for cultural exchanges, presenting in Denver, Colorado, at the Falcon Conference, and her involvement in the Kenatamowonawak Early Childhood Educators Project in which she led talking circles with her peers.
“Tribal colleges like CMN offer a positive, safe and culturally responsive space to learn, grow and heal,” Webster said. “CMN is that special place for me, and I will be forever grateful for my experiences here that will continue to guide and inspire me for the rest of my life. I am honored and humbled to be selected as Student of the Year and will represent CMN well in all aspects and endeavors.”
CMN’s Student of the Year receives a $1,200 scholarship and will join those from other accredited tribal colleges and universities honored annually through the American Indian Higher Education Consortium.
The College of Menominee Nation is an accredited Tribal College that offers a variety of programs from technical diplomas to baccalaureate degrees. CMN has two campuses with locations in Keshena and Green Bay, and is open to all.
