Shawano’s girl wrestlers are back at, winning 18-9 in a dual meet at New London on Jan. 11.
“We started with an exhibition match at 132 that had Breleigh Thornock earning a fall in 5:29,” coach Mike Homan said. “It was a back-and-forth match, and Breleigh did a great job securing the pin at the end.”
The next match was Jenna Moede at 114. She wrestled Sophia Hull-Riggs and earned a fall in 1:42. The next match was at 120 when Onna Hermann took on Thressa Voight.
“The match was close in the first minute as both girls battled for position,” Homan said. “Onna scored a takedown in the first period and chose to go neutral in the second period. Just into the second period, she scored a takedown and finished the match with a fall in 3:12.”
Caitlyn Moede wrestled Berkley Reimer at 126 during the next match. Caitlyn scored 3 takedowns in the first period. Shortly into the second period, she secured a fall in 2:20.
Next up was Adalyn Barkley vs. Eve Hedtke at 138.
“It was a great match going back and forth,” Homan said. “Adalyn built up a three-point lead going into the third period but was defeated by fall in 4:38.”
The last match of the night was Courtney Schenk vs. 2023 state champion Hailie Krueger.
“Courtney wrestled a great match and fought hard the whole time,” Homan said. “She lost the match by final score of 11-1 but did some really good things in her match.
“It is great to see all of the girls work hard and continue to do good things on the mat.”
