Shawano County deputies will begin the new year with a new three-year contract with the county, following approval of the deal by the county board Dec. 20.
Updates and revisions to the collective bargaining agreement primarily related to wages and retirement contributions.
The contract includes a 7% pay raise in 2024 for patrol officers and detectives. Wages will increase 6% in 2025 and 4.5% in 2026.
“The county’s labor attorney worked on this contract,” Sheriff George Lenzner said. “I think it’s a fair contract. It’s very similar to other counties in our area our size.”
The contract will be effective from Jan. 1, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2026.
Starting wages for a new deputy in 2024 will be $28.24 per hour. That rate will be $29.93 in 2025 and $31.28 in 2026. Pay increases are planned again at six, 18, 30 and 84 months.
A new detective will receive $34.81 per hour in 2024, $36.90 in 2025 and $38.56 in 2026. An hourly increase is in place at 24 months.
Wages for the school resource officer and court services officer deputies will be at the same rate as the patrol position.
“It’s within budget for next year. It’s within what we had put in the budget,” said Tom Kautza, board chairman. “The union was happy with it. They ratified it.”
