Leonard C. Heise Sr.

Leonard Charles Heise Sr., 91, of Suring, passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 25, 1931, in Breed to the late Arthur and Clara (Zimmerman) Heise. On June 25, 1955, Leonard married his soulmate, Delores Esther Wolf. Leonard served in the Korean War from October 1952 to July 1954, earning the Korean Service Ribbon with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Leonard was a farmer all his life. He also worked for the Town of Breed plowing snow and as the sexton and grave digger for Breed Union Cemetery. Leonard worked for Williams Farms harvesting crops and as head mechanic, retiring in 1990. Leonard was a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather. One of Leonard’s favorite things was to sit in his recliner and watch wrestling and Westerns. He also loved to make his many soup recipes for everyone to enjoy. Leonard is survived by his children, Laurie (Steve) Belongia, Peggy (Pat) Belongia, Leonard C. (Sharon) Heise Jr., Tina (Gary) Deneys, Tammy (Gary) Karnes, Dawn (Joe) Kriegel and Lloyd (Julie) Heise; faithful furry companion, Miggie; grandchildren, Gary Heise, Tony (Holly) Kalous, Jenny (Ryan) Friedman, Ashley (Christopher) Voltz, Tonya (Al) Rosina, Tiffany Belongia, Charles (Chynnia) Heise, Molly (Bob) Woodke, Douglas (special friend Brittany) Belongia Jr., Krystle (Nick) Tomczik, Gabrielle (special friend Nate) Dey, McKayla (fiancé Blair) Campshure, Matthew Kriegel, Mariah Kriegel and Jarod (Lizzy) Chazell; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Betty Van Rens; brother-in-law, Edward (Judy) Wolf Jr.; sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Pete) Kruschke, Mary Ann Anderson and Marie (DeeDee) Wolf. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; parents, Arthur and Clara; father- and mother-in-law, Edward and Evelyn Wolf; children, Kathy Kalous, Mary Heise and Susan Heise; great-grandchildren, Madison Pluger and Lucas Pownell; brother, Arnold Heise; sister, Isabelle Luebeck; brothers-in-law, Harvey Wolf, Paul Wolf, Raymond Anderson, Skip Van Rens and Ecker Luebeck; and sons-in-law, Doug Belongia Sr. and Ronald Kalous. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steven Stoll officiating. Leonard will be interred at Breed Union Cemetery with military honors. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements.
