To the editor:
In a month from now, the doors to the old Shawano Hospital will close. Hearts may grieve. However, the employees who have served in the old building, some for a long time, will be the same caring people who will also serve at the new hospital.
We remember doctors of the past whose service has been very meaningful. By the same token, we are grateful for the doctors who are affiliated with the hospital and provide services now. Many of those providers will only be footsteps away from the patients who need them.
We think about all the families the old hospital has served through the years: the newborn, the young, the old and everybody in between. That old building has indeed seen a lot and has persevered. No one can ever take that away.
However, in the transition, we can be assured the hospital’s employees will still continue to provide service with their compassion, loyalty and personal engagement. This will be a new building, but the employees will be the same people we have grown to depend on, to provide their expertise in serving health care needs to the best of their ability with the highest standards.
We thank Dorothy Erdmann for leading the way and wish all the employees the best. They may miss 309 N. Bartlett, the place they punched in morning, noon and night, seven days a week (even in blizzards); the place where they may have met each other; and the old building where they grew to work together no matter what. We honor that.
To the hospital staff: May your roles on County Road B also bring heartwarming memories as you journey into your new adventure in the new hospital. We respect you and are grateful for all you have done, and all you will continue to do. We’ve got your backs as they say. Carry on, but enjoy.
