Leora Irene (nee Jones) Schultz-Raisler, 96, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Saturday evening, Oct. 24, 2015, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident while riding with friends and her sister, Grace Hyland.
Leora was born on Jan. 15, 1919, in New Holstein, Calumet County, to William and Anna Jones. Leora grew up in a family filled with music and laughter. Many family members called the Jones farm “home.” As a child, Leora helped her mother with the children and fondly recalled sewing clothing for her family. She graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1939. She was employed at College Woman’s Club in Milwaukee, making $12 with room and board. She then moved on to Holeproof Hosiery as an assistant purchasing agent. Leora was a housewife and mother. She finished her working years at Wacker Corporation, with retirement in 1970.
Leora married Allen “Harv” Schultz at St. John’s Cathedral in Milwaukee on July 28, 1945, and together they had one son, Allen “Butch,” and she became a stepmother to LaVonne Jones and Phyllis Meske. The couple and their son later settled in Hartford. They enjoyed many years traveling with their Avion travel trailer, square dancing and entertaining. The two retired to a cottage on White Lake while also wintering in Florida.
It has been said that Leora was lucky in love, having found a second husband who she enjoyed life’s adventures with and was known to marry every “50 years.” On April 28, 1995, Leora married Robert Raisler at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spruce. Together their love was one that brought a smile to your face, music to your ears and a spring to your step. Leora enjoyed many years of square dancing gatherings, her annual Fourth of July picnic and card club.
Survivors are her six grandchildren, Naomi (Jeremy) Jones, Danielle (Scott “Clark” Hannan) Bell, Rebecca Schultz, Deborah Arbogast, David Schultz and Mitchel Schultz; one daughter-in-law, Leann Schultz; along with nine great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, LaVonne Jones, and step-grandchildren Jud and Lynn Jones; stepchildren David (Mary) Raisler, Robert (Margo) Raisler, Nancy Raisler, and four stepgrandchildren, Michael (Maricar) Raisler, Brian (Audra) Raisler, Kami Ates and Erik Hansen; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Jones; two husbands, Harv Schultz and Robert Raisler; her only son, Allen “Butch” Schultz; stepdaughter, Phyllis Meske; four brothers, William, Len, Pat and Vernon Jones; and two sisters, Elizabeth “Boots” Jones and Grace Hyland.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 253 N. Franklin St., Oconto Falls, until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember and Celestine Byekwaso concelebrating. Cremation will follow, with burial of the urn in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the family.
We would like to thank neighbors Belinda Chou and Sandra and Neil Bigelow for keeping a watchful eye on Leora and Pat over the years, as well as Dana, Cheryl, Emily and Bill from Unity Hospice.
