James N. Franz, 61, of Appleton, died peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Antigo, son of Adolph “Ollie” and Elizabeth “Beth” Franz.
Jim hit the jackpot when he married Angela Pahlow on June 21, 2005, in Las Vegas. Angie chose the summer solstice in hopes that Jim would remember their anniversary; alas, it didn’t help.
Jim owned and operated The Union Jack tavern in Appleton for 30 years. He loved a great adventure and traveled the world. He was such a wonderful raconteur that many lived those adventures vicariously.
Jim thoroughly enjoyed the many motorcycles he rode and collected throughout his life. He truly loved people and people loved him; we’ll never know how many people Jim helped or lives he touched. It was his love of family that brought him back to Appleton, where he later settled down with Angie in their “own little slice of heaven.”
He will be missed beyond words. Spanem Bohem Jim!
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Angie; his mother, Beth, Appleton; three sisters, Mary (Dave) Brown, Appleton, Ann (Toney) Fidler, Mineral Wells, Texas, and Jean (Bill) Golubeff, Appleton; three brothers, George (Debbie) Franz, Hortonville, John (Darcie) Franz, Kimberly, and Andy (Becky) Franz, Plover; father- and mother in-law, Richard (Susan) Pahlow, Thornton; two sisters-in-law, Lisa (Bill) Martin, Red River, and Shari (Paul) Leeman, Oneida. Jim is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ollie.
A Mass of Christian Burial for James will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, with the Rev. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 9-11 a.m.
