Shawano’s girls wrestlers were aggressive against multiple schools and captured first place at their own Holiday Classic on Dec. 16.
Jenna Moede wrestled well and took first place in her finals match with a fall in 3:52. Gwyn Hermann took second place after a close match in the finals.
“Gwyn continues to improve and wrestle hard,” coach Mike Homan said. “Jenna went 4-0 on the day with four pins. Jenna has really been wrestling well, and she continues to improve.”
Onna Hermann took second place as well. Caitlyn Moede took fifth place and had the toughest bracket of the tournament, as her bracket contained four state qualifiers from last season.
Ali Lemerond took second place as well.
“She has been wrestling well and improving greatly,” Homan said, of Lemerond. “Adalyn Barkley took fourth place and wrestled some great matches. She is learning the sport and competing hard in every match.”
Vivian Waldburger took first place at 152 pounds. She has been on a roll lately, taking advantage of each match.
“Her season is off to a great start, and we look forward to more growth in the coming weeks,” Homan said. “Courtney Schenk placed second as well. She continues to work hard and expand her knowledge of the sport.”
Shawano outscored their opponents 119-92 and improved to 3-0.
Shawano wins at Brillion
Shawano’s girls wrestling team took first place against multiple schools at Brillion on Dec. 8. The Hawks scored 109 points compared to 89 for their opponents as they improved to 2-0 on the season.
“We had multiple girls wrestling in finals and placing matches,” Homan said. “All of the girls on the team did a great job fighting and wrestling hard tonight. I’m very proud of all of them. The girls keep working hard, and they keep improving greatly.”
Earning second-place finishes were Jenna Moede, Onna Hermann, Caitlyn Moede and Vivian Waldburger. Placing third were Ali Lemerond and Courtney Schenk.
