Gerald D. Dehn, 78, of Bonduel, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, after a seven-month battle with leukemia. He was at home surrounded by his family.
Gerald was born in the town of Hartland on July 20, 1937, to the late Paul and Linda (Krueger) Dehn. He attended school at Graf Country School until the sixth grade, and then attended Bonduel Elementary and Bonduel High School, graduating in 1956.
On July 23, 1960, Gerald was united in marriage to Betty Luepke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. He helped his dad farm before working for Bleick’s Creamery, Laney Cheese and Beatrice Cheese as a milk hauler. In 1983, he bought his own truck and route, which became Dehn’s Milk Hauling Inc. He enjoyed visiting with all the farmers and became friends with all their dogs. On June 30, 2002, he sold the truck and route and retired.
Gerald was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel, served as an elder for six years, a trustee for six years, on the finance and stewardship committees for three years, and helped to clean the church and mow the lawn.
He had a love for bowling, and bowled for 50 years. Gerald went to the national bowling tournament for 13 years and, on Oct. 19, 1997, was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was the secretary of the commercial league for four years and sponsored many bowling teams. Gerald was also a member of the Bonduel Lions Club and the Bonduel Broncos baseball team, for which he kept score for 10 years. He enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and NASCAR, listening to polka music, and watching and feeding the birds. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty; their children, Sherrie (Steve) Peterson and Scott (Mari) Dehn; five grandchildren, Amanda (fiancé, Ryan Krause) Gipp, Jared (friend, Christi Krueger) Gipp, Brooks Dehn, Katie (Ken) Kadonsky, and Megan (friend, Ryan Koch) Peterson; one great-grandson, Jameson Kadonsky; his sister, Carol (Robert) Luepke; brother-in-law, Larry (Jane) Luepke; sisters-in-law, Audrey (Roger) Wood, Karen (Dennis) Stoltenow, Lana (Steve) Reinke; and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Linda; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Violet Luepke; and his sister-in-law, Rochelle (Sally) Luepke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Mark Palmer and the Rev. Timothy Shoup officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at the church from 4-8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
