George S. Nelson Jr., 93, of Kelly Lake, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
George was born on Feb. 21, 1931, to the late George Sr. and Kathleen (Kispert) Nelson in Kenosha. He was a loving husband, brother and uncle. George enlisted in the Army in May 1951 and spent two years stationed in Alaska. After returning from the Army in April 1953, he moved to Brookfield, Illinois, where he was employed in the construction business. In 1954, George married Shirley Hurt in Riverside, Illinois. George was a member of the Suring American Legion Post 283.
George is survived by sisters-in-law, Frances Jean Hurt and Sharyn Gunderson; brother-in-law, William (Patricia) Hurt. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, in August 2020; sisters, Geraldine Voss and Joan Mayers; brother-in-law, Charles Gunderson.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Antonio De Los Santos officiating. Military honors will follow the service. George will be interred at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
